Chain Cast-on Method

The Chain cast-on method is creates a nice even edge that matches a single crochet bind-off. Use when the edge of your fabric will not be hidden such as with fringe and lace.

Tools needed

  • Knitting board
  • Crochet hook
Before casting-on, review the good loom knitting habits. It's important not to wrap tightly.

  1. Make a slip not and place it on your crochet hook.
You will be working around the knitting board starting on the upper rake on the left at peg 2 and moving to the right and then down to the lower rake from the right to the left and ending back up on peg 2.
  2. Place the crochet hook on the inside of the loom behind peg 2 and bring the working yarn to the front of the peg. Grab the working yarn with your crochet hook and crochet a single stitch so that it wraps peg 2.

  3. Repeat step 2 All around the knitting board.

  4. When you get to peg 1, take the wrap that is on the crochet hook and place it on the peg.
From the front of the loom, you will see one wrap on each peg. On the back, you will see two except for the first and last pegs.
  5. Wrap the loom for the stitch pattern you'd like to use and knit off.
