Cross Stitch

cross stitch

Also Known As

  • Twist stitch
  • One-over-one stitch
  • Cross-over stitch
  • Traveling stitch
  • Wrap-around
The cross stitch is a common stitch found in patterns. It's the easiest type of crossed stitch to work on the loom. You simply switch the wraps of two adjacent pegs. The direction you switch them depends upon whether it twists left or right.

Cross stitches are used as part of miniature cables, decorative patterns and backgrounds.

Directions

See crossed stitches to determine which stitch is front and which is back in the twist.

  1. Pick up the wrap that will be front and hold with your knitting tool.

  2. Move the wrap that will be on bottom to the peg of the wrap you are holding with your knitting tool.

  3. Place the wrap you are holding with your knitting tool on the now empty peg.

  4. Wrap and knit off the row as usual.
